- All-season
- Built for spring, summer and fall, with enough tread for light snow. Most carry the M+S mark. The rubber gets hard in real cold, so braking distances grow. See the Warrior R32.
- All-weather
- An all-season tire that also carries the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol. It is rated for severe snow and can stay on the vehicle all year. See the Hercules X-Journey.
- Winter
- Soft rubber and deep, heavily siped tread made for snow, ice and cold pavement. Some can be studded. They come off in spring. See the Venom Power Ice Hunter.
- All-terrain
